Our developer days for Windows Mobile kick off at Chelsea!
On Monday night Samsung Application Store hosted a developer day at Chelsea Football Club aimed at showing the opportunities to build and port apps for the Omnia II device and sell them through Samsung Application Store. This store currently has both a web presence and an on-device client.
After a champagne reception, where developers were able to network and find out what fellow Windows Mobile professionals are working on, there was a series of short presentations covering:

• Introduction to Samsung Application Store
• Technical support with Samsung Mobile Innovator
• Using the Samsung Omnia II SDK
• Taking your app to market

In addition to some device giveaways one of the highlights of the night was news of the Samsung Application Store Developer Challenge 2009 with its combined prize pool of $330,000. This competition is the perfect opportunity for developers looking to use our new Windows Mobile SDK 2.0 to build on, or port their app to, Samsung devices. The SDK gives developers access to all of Samsung’s custom APIs (features such as the accelerometer, notification LEDs, and haptic feedback), plus it also supports Windows Mobile 6.5. Samsung is one of the first handset manufacturers to offer such an SDK.
“The Omnia II is a flagship device for Samsung Mobile and we are keen for as many apps as possible to be available for it, exploiting its unique APIs”, said Anwar Ahmed, Samsung Mobile Innovator’s Global Relations Manager, who hosted the Chelsea event. “Likewise events such as these developer days, and Samsung Mobile Innovator’s continued cross-platform activities, show Samsung’s ongoing commitment to the Open OS community.”
For our members in Continental Europe, there will be a similar Developer Day  event  in Italy on Wednesday November 18 2009.
